Central Emergency Services - Prepared for the worst, providing the best

 

The call was received at 9:49 PM for a possible structure fire in Sterling at the old processing building. On arrival, Engine 3 reported heavy black smoke and flames coming from the building. Within a few minutes, Engine 3 then reported a roof collapse and heavy fire coming from the building.

Firefighters placed four 1.75 inch hand lines, a 3 inch monitor and aerial support on the fire and provided exposure protection to nearby buildings, which were saved. A water relay was set up at the Moose River with Engine 1. Kenai FD Engine 3 assisted with the water supply from the river. Tanker 1, Tanker 3 and Tanker 4 supported the ground operation through Engine 3 and the aerial operation through Ladder 1.

Central Emergency Services responded with Engine 1, Ladder 1, Tanker 1, Medic 1, Rescue 1, Engine 3, Tanker 3, Brush 3, Tanker 4, Chief 1, Chief 2, 904, Chaplain 1, and over 30 personnel.
