At around 9:00 AM Friday June 2nd, Central
Emergency Services was called out to a report of smoke in a bedroom. Upon
arrival, Firefighters found a fully involved log home near the end of Corey
Street in Sterling, AK.
Firefighters immediately took up defensive positions around the structure to
stop the fire from spreading to a shed and surrounding forest land. When
additional water supplies arrived on scene, initial attack commenced on the
fire. A monitor line was charged in front of the house and two 1.75 inch primary
attack lines were charged and deployed.
Though the house was a complete loss, the occupant wasn't seriously injured and
his dogs were fine as well.
C.E.S. responded to the fire scene with Engine 3, Tanker 1, Tanker 4, Ladder 1
and Medic 1. Alaska State Forestry responded with Engine K-62 to help protect
exposures to the forested areas around the house.
