Central Emergency Services - Prepared for the worst, providing the best

On Monday May 29th, 2006, a fire started in a smoker that eventually burned through numerous cords of cut firewood located next to a home on Three Johns Road near Sterling. The fire was 100 x 50 feet and at times had flames reaching up to 50 feet into the nearby trees. Firefighters initially worked to keep the fire away from the home, which suffered minor heat damage.

C.E.S. responded with brush trucks, a structure engine and water tankers. Alaska State Forestry responded with two engines and a hand crew to assist in the containment effort.
