Central Emergency Services - Prepared for the worst, providing the best

At approximately 2:15 PM, Friday November 24th, 2006, Central Emergency Services received a call for mutual aid from the Kenai City Fire Department for assistance with a motor vehicle crash at mile 5.9 of the Kenai Spur Highway.

First responders and witnesses reported a multi-vehicle accident involving a Ford Windstar van, a Geo sedan and an 18 wheeler tractor trailer.

One patient was transported to Central Peninsula General Hospital in critical condition, the driver of the 18 wheeler wasn't injured.

C.E.S. provided assistance with four personnel; Firefighters Ben Simonds & Brian Heath from "A" shift, and Firefighters Matt Mokracek & Dustin Sena, plus a medic unit. Extrication was done by members of Central Emergency Services and Kenai Engine 1, with Kenai's Rescue and Medic units providing additional manpower and medical transport of the patient.

The Kenai Spur Highway was closed in both directions while crews removed the vehicles from the roadway and cleaned up the debris.
